HI folks,
Last night I realised that upon logging in to chat, I was taken directly to the Newbies Club. Great idea if I was a newbie, but alas I am not. When I enquired from a Mod as to why we were in there, I was told that admin put this in place so as to welcome newbies to the chatrooms.
However, having given this much thought, I would like to make the following suggestion(s) regarding the chatrooms.
When a person registers for the first time on the site, I suggest that for a minimum period of at least 1 month, that when they enter chat, they are restricted to The Newbies Club and also the opporunity of creating their own chatroom.
The benefit here as I see it, is that it is the perfect opportunity of new members to learn about Site Rules and if then, they are found to be in breach of the same rules, then their membership can be denied after that month.
I would also suggest that when a new member joins, they can only do so on a probational period of the same 1 month, after which if they don't cause trouble, then they can enjoy the full benefits of the site.
Finally, while I can understand to some degree, the reasons behind welcoming people in the Newbies Club, I do feel that this decision should have been posted in advance and members given the opporunity to give their opinions.
Thank you for listening and I hope these suggestions are taken in the helpful way that they are given.

I understand your sentiments Dar, but in restricting new sign-ups to a room you are denying them the opportunity to fully appreciate the site and the people on it. I would wonder if a newbie room would have a particularly lively open chat and, if not, would we then lose some people before they'd actually joined in fully. I don't see the harm in being directed to the newbie room on entering the chat rooms.
oh long i enjoy your durty whipsers..

My reasons behind the above suggestions are based on that many members are leaving because of constant abuse and annoyance. I would like to think there are ways to weed out these people if you know what I mean.
However, there should be some stipulation at least in a persons membership to ensure that anyone causing grief for people can be removed easily.
Dar, I genuinely understand your sentiments as I said. I just dislike the idea of everyone being tarred with the same brush, and blanket restrictions being applied. We did not have this imposed on us when we joined. If we were to look at the issue of the persistent whispers I think you will find that a lower ratio of these people are actually new members.
I also think the newbies room is slightly redundant. At this point all the regular chatters are congregating there to chat with friends. I don't remember the newbies room being particularly busy at any point before it became the default room, which strengthens my point that new sign-ups want to see what the site is all about and not be sectioned to a swing pre-school.
Perhaps rather than imposing a sanction on new sign-ups it could be determined first if they have actually read the AUP. When I signed up I had to provide an email address. An AUP questionnaire could be composed in a multiple choice form and emailed to the proposed sign-up. On successfully completing the questionnaire they could then be given full access to the chat rooms. At least this would ensure that the site rules/ AUP had been read in the first place.
Dar my main point is that abuse is not just being encountered on the chat rooms, it's not just new sign-ups doing this and we need to draw attention to the existing culprits without the site losing either existing or potential new members.
Dar, firstly I’d like to say, this site is run as a business providing a service for CONSENTING ADULTS. A contract is electronically signed to which they must abide by terms and conditions of such. Now granted some members will be considered newbies as in new to the life style, but being adults they are responsible for their own actions and should be treated as having the same rights and obligations as any other member irrelevant of their length of time on site. To disenfranchise new members from the start by curtailing their activities as consenting adults is both unfair and discriminatory.
In your reply to midnight your equating the newbies as being responsible for the abuse and cause of members leaving the site, that is a fallacy, as a Mod working in the background I can tell you abuse is not dictated by the length of time a person has been a member for, its down to the nature of that person, we have fabulous newbies and long time members, but abusers fall under both categories, it is not confined to newbies.
Finally I’d like to say, what’s the deal with the big deal of a room title. For me it’s the people in the room that make a room and not its title. Personally I don’t care what the room title is as long as I am enjoying the chat and interaction it’s a none issue.
Excellent post midnight
I agree.....Midnights 2 posts say it all...
