Well ,I looked long and hard for mine, even edited it,so i reckon some ppl do put a bit of time into theirs, I enjoy the avatars they often make me smile, my only gripe would be on some of the really small ones with writing it can be hard to read them 
But I look on them as a way for ppl to personalise their posts and would think that if ya just pick any old pic its an opportunity missed.

I usually use their chat, in the chat rooms to decide, if we get on in chat and they dont take themselves too seriously , its a good indication for me that we will get on in the real world so to speak. I will also throw my eye over the comments and establised,when chatting I find the comments help a bit,but for me their not the be all and end all, I mostly go by the way ppl chat.
But the one thing that will turn me off more than anything is somone tormenting me over and over again for a meet, perstering me every time i come into chat,that gets a black mark in my book.
And to answer what makes me not choose, well if im honest, theres always ppl we like and dont like in chat as well as life, and if i see one of them on an persons establised list, it will definitly colour my view on agreeing to a meet.

Bliss i agree totally regarding the names and labels, seems we have to put a name on everything these days,with everything and everyone in a nice tidy box.
I cant name/label myself cos im still finding out new things all the time, though im sure theres a few other ppl on-site who would put some interesting labels on me ;)

actually was tending to be a bit flippant regarding this thread first , but then i started thinking bout it, realised what i would have considered totally strange 10 years ago , now i find, if not totally "normal" at least acceptable and on occasion enjoyable,,,,, wonder is it because of the oft mentioned term thrown at us from the do gooders of the world, the normalisation of sex, or it it just because the more u experience the more ur realise the old saying different strokes for different folks really does ring true, and just because ppl like differant stuff than we do and i include myself in that,,,, they aint all nutters and headers.
