There are the normal ( . )( . ), the silicone ( + )( + ), the perfect (o)(o) Some are cold (^)(^) & some belong to grandmothers (./(./ And let’s not forget the very large (o Y o), the very small (.)(.) and the asymmetrical (•)(.) We love them all! say ┌П┐(◉_◉)┌П┐ to Breast Cancer!
If you are picking a charity to support this year, perhaps this is one that might appeal to you. Please other members list your charity choices and why you might feel they are a worthy cause. Regrettably not all of us are in a position to support these causes as much as we would like, but any contribution is a good contribution.
Barnardos would be one I am supporting this year, the high rate of child abuse/neglect in this country is outrageous!!
Anyone can support a cause, it's not all about donations of money or items of food and clothing. Volunteering is another way 1 hour a week is not much to ask of anyones time or sponsored walks, runs, cycles etc.
I agree, I was actually tired of all the canvassing and collections and the guilty feelings when I had to say 'sorry, no money'. I decided to nominate one charity each year and set up a standing order to them each month. My last one saw me sending €15 euro per month to Oxfam, and it allowed me to say to the countless collection people I would encounter each month, sorry but I contribute each month to my own nominated charity. I am now looking at this year's charity and am more inclined to support an Irish based, having supported a global one last year.
Barnardos is the one for me too, heartbreaking to think of so many kids needing help:thumbup:
Barnardos get my support. I agree, we can't give to all who ask, but children in need of support in this country; are, and have always been classed secondary to adults in all situations, both on a legislative and Constitutional level to such an extent they are denied basic human rights.
Mine is Debra Ireland.... Breaks your heart to see those poor children in constant pain but still have a smile on their face x St luke's hospital in Dublin too..... A friend of mine died from Brest cancer a year ago she was 32, they took fantastic care of her right to the end
I think Jack and Jill are the most amazing people but I have a lot of time for Autism Ireland . Nice to be under Kitten x
I do voluntary work for a Womens Refuge in Dublin. Had I not met my beautiful wife, I'd never have realised the extent of the abuse perpetrated against women and children in this country.
Irish cancer research for me, lost my dad 2years ago. When he found out he had it after months of trying 2 see wat was wrong with him,he died 3 weeks to deal with. Big thanks to the staff of blanchardstown hospital. They cud,nt have helped more and were always thete to listen.
Jack and Jill is a truly all giving service outstanding Have a link with Lukemia research too .... Whatever you can do for whomever is always worthwhile
Temple St Childrens Hospital is mine, Had to spend nearly two weeks there with my little boy a couple of years back and i cant praise them highly enough.. the staff really went above and beyond to help make what was a difficult and painful time for my little one as easy as humanly possible
The Miscarriage Association Of Ireland, so many little angels have been given such dignity wearing the little robes they supply, and the support they give to the familys of the little angels is amazing

Mid......great thread  Kitten, I'm with you on this one.......mine is also Debra Ireland......these poor kids suffer enormous pain from this incurable disease known as Epidermolysis Bullosa. Having met a number of them over the years, they are truly brave little soldiers in more ways than you could possibly imagine.... Another charity close to my heart is my local animal rescue centre. Sadly, they are totally reliant on local donations to look after our unwanted furry friends.....
Brilliant thread Midnight, Those who are already committed will feel supported by other site members stating their interests, and a few more may be spurred into action. I have a commitment to two charities..the LIFEBOATS (those guys who risk their lives to save others..what bravery) and as a close relative of mine succumbed to a secondary as a result of brest cancer I am very BREAST AWARE...(financially and of course for pleasure !!!) Of late, I have got great satisfaction from another charitable act...I do not support children begging as I feel that somewhere close by an adult is waiting to take the money and maybe use it for ...maybe drugs, drink, etc (pardon if I generalise, just my gut feeling). So of late on a local street corner I buy a sandwich and instead of putting a few coins in his worn paper cup, I give the sandwich to a little 10/12 year old. The look on his face makes me feel good for the day....so randon acts of kindness have a huge feel good factor...try it sometime.

Totally agree with that Dubhead, its most likely that this is the scenario
My charity will always be for Breast Cancer...lost a sister & a very good friend. Three aunts and a cousin has been diagnosed but thankfully recoverd.
whichever charity that resonates the most with you is the best charity to give to.
Aware and Amen get my contribution annually. Aware to help support those and their family who are dealing with mental health issues. This country still has the attitude of someone needing to; 'pull themselves together' or 'they need a kick up the backside' and 'sure we all have bad days' Suffering from depression and other mental health issues are for too long, brushed under the carpet. Rehabcare did a great ad with a bed in it a while back. Amen also receives a contribution yearly too. Many people and judges dont accept that a man can be subject to abuse either physical or emotional at the hands of a women. Saying, 'you;re twice her size' or if 'you can just leave'. I;ve witnessed the physical abuse women can inflict on men twice their size and when the woman was pushed away by the male she was physically assaulting, when the guards were called, he was taken away as she cried and said he attacked her. Again, another issue neglected and hidden away from view. Two areas I am passionate about and about the only topics that make my blood boil.

Simon Community for the homeless Kerry remembers being up in dublin years ago when he was being interviewed for the gardai. He was killing time before the interview and was on Henry Street and a young brother and sister begging and shivering in the cold and he couldnt understand why and he told them to swallow their pride and go back to their parents but when he looks back on it now he realizes that they couldnt do that. He had a lot of money in his pocket for his trip to Dublin and gave them 20 pounds. For me well cancer foundation and both of us support animal welfare charities........my son volunteers for an animal welfare group..where i live.....
