When you are reading a profile do spelling mistakes turn you off? Would it stop you from replying to someone or messaging them in the first place? I just dont understand why people dont use spell check before they post their ads. What else on profiles makes you go "tut, for gods sake"? (better go check mine)
A common mistake wouldn't overly bother me but as you say Ginger, spell check isn't rocket science. If there's quite a few, I'm wondering if the same lack of attention would be present in person. Correct spelling is literary grooming lol Blank profiles (gotta admit mine needs some attention) are frustrating. Like meeting someone who doesn't talk. [i:31c3f43c1d]"Like everything metaphysical the harmony between thought and reality is to be found in the grammar of the language" [/i:31c3f43c1d]
Defo not, there are many dyslexic people in the world and even with spell check may not recognize the word anyway so I think it would be unfair to judge someones profile or person on a spelling error........blank profiles bug the life out of me too ....
I with jilly biggrin :D cant spell to save me life :D But dont often get ask to spell in bed dunno:dunno:innocent:whistling:rotflmao:rotflmao: If it brains your after move on iam roiding on empty :swingingchair::swingingchair::swingingchair: lol
BTB  Oh and loads of nationalities on here too who have better english than we have their lingo but their spelling may not be great ...sorry ginger not with you on this one huni
Fair point on Dyslexia and other nationalities JNJ, didn't take that into consideration redface It's not the actual spelling that'd bother me (I'm no Einstein) just if it was the result of a lack of effort. And BTB you may not have been asked to spell in bed but I bet you've cast a few spells in bed innocent
I totally agree with JacknJilly. I don't use spell check and know how to spell very well, but even I make mLstakes. To add, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest if they couldn't spell, I'm not interested in their spelling ;) The fact they would have numerous photos and in private, then ask for a peek of their privates only to find out they are all cock pics  now that does my noggin in!
I find it in poor taste when someone feels it is necessary to openly correct someone's spelling especially in the chat room. I understand that you may spot mistakes and wonder why the spell check was not used, this is not what I am referring to at all. You may note that business people who deal with text on a daily basis often make quite basic spelling mistakes but this does not detract from their ability to perform at a high level. As long as the gist of what someone wants to say is clear then they are effectively communicating. P.S. American colleges have found that the standard of spelling amongst students is at an all time low; when students are questioned as to why the standard is low they respond that they don't need to be right, spell check will correct them....... I am going to be controversial now and say I find women are better spellers in general.bolt
P.S.S. Spell check informs me Gist is not spelt Jist.......
minor levels of spelling errors are ok, what we really dislike is text speak and general gibberish that is a big no no for us
Totally agree midnight and I'd never openly correct someone's spelling (for a start I'm not expert enough to!) The vibe I got from Gingers post was that a profile with a lot of spelling mistakes ( JNJs comments taken into account) could be as a result of a lack of care. If you met someone for the first time who was scruffily dressed I'm sure it would alter your impression of them? OK the scenario doesn't fully equate to a few mistakes but you get my drift. Controversial but I wouldn't disagree with the gender spelling comment bolt Btw, I spell-checked your navel Midnight, all good.

Btw, I spell-checked your navel Midnight, all good.

Just to be clear, I did say that it is not noticing spelling errors I am referring to, it's the need to correct an individual that bothers me. While it's a little off topic it's a good opportunity to mention it.
I like to make sure my spelling is spot on when posting or mailing. It doesnt bother me if others spell badly or incorrectly its just a thing I have about my own spelling. Except when Im on a phone then I dont bother with commas or apostrophes etc. I do hate receiving mails typed in texting shorthand though
Two things that bug me would be someone being pedantic about spelling and someone being careless with their profile. As long as someone puts in the effort with their profile even if there are spelling and grammar mistakes it doesn't bother me. Over use of text speak would also be a bug bear of mine. Apart from that I'm not fussy, honest. Gar
What I was aiming at was what mr sparkle got on the head. A profile that's just flug together without even looking at it, I can't spell to save my life so rely on the spell checker. It's like meeting someone that's not had a shave or bothered to brush their teeth., Loving the inputs from you all so far..
As a child I was teased , tormented , punished even shunned for my faults , inabilities , limitations , differences and inabilities ….. As an adult I have learned , patents , tolerance , forgiveness and acceptance of who I am now , Some will correct me if I am wrong , some will tease relentlessly , Some judge me and others judge will be judged . Those who know me will just except me as I am and the ones who want to get to know you will learn to over come and to tolerate my differences if they want to take the time to learn that intelligence is not just the written word its the meaning behind the words , the reason for the words and not the words alone , anyone can string a sentence together , but not everyone can make a sentence make since . Stop over thinking the differences and start with the person not there faults .You cant read a book without getting past the cover no more than you can get to know a person from a few printed words .

Mids I challenge you to a spelling competition...and just to make it interesting how about we make it strip spelling... wink Now theres an idea for the next meet n greet.. lol
Ah maybe their using iPads smile trying typing with one of those, they have a mind of their own and are liable to turn a perfect sentence into something that may get you locked up :) As one who uses an iPad I have to check and check and check again or risk looking like a loon :) but overall since texting came on stream, people seem to have ditched spelling for shorter versions of the word, in 5 yrs the youth of today wont be able to spell or write and it'll be hash tags the like that will take over, I see it in emails every day, especially from young people, rant over :) But to answer your question ginger I dont think I'd kick them out of the bed for poor spelling....or eating crisps

Anytime Tiny ;) lol
Tiny .... Love it. I suffer from Dyslexia so my spelling is always terrible but i try to keep it under control as much as i can. I would rather look at a filled up profile with a few spelling mistakes than an empty or almost empty one. I may struggle with letters but i am good with Figures ...... Sean
I have a few pet peeves about grammar but not about typos or spelling. It's the incorrect use of the following:
to, too and two
there, their and they're
your and you're

I know it's pedantic! Apologies!
Spelling mistakes we can all make but e-mails and profiles with txt jargon seem to be on the increase here and it's doing my head in. It looks like gibberish and I feel I need a masters to decode what's been said. ...... and breath. lol
General spelling mistakes or oversights dont bother me, once I get the gist ( not jist, thanks mids lol) of what you're saying. What drives me bonkers is the short hand use of letters that are supposed to make up words (possibly coz I dont know what they're all supposed to mean!!) For example: (and some of these I do get ;-) LOL, ROFL, PMSL, LMFAO, LMAO, BRB, WB, W/O, LUP to name but a few -
