How do you feel about covered songs?
Are the originals always the best?
Should musicans forget about Retro and simply produce new and uncovered work?
Give examples
Its debatable! Like for example Amy Whinehouse - Valerie, I like the original but the cover is really good
But in most cases your right
Lets not get started on Movies - remakes and sequels never as good (2 exemptions Gfather pt 2 and Terminator 2)
Run - Snow Patrol - classic. Ruined by that pop factor or x factor winner or is that whiner?
Mr Yummy here.
It depends on the cover.
For example Nirvana do a fantastic cover of the Bowie song "Man who sold the world"
Guns and Roses do a class version of Sympathy for the Devil by the stones.
The sugar bebes version of under the bridge by the chilli peppers is a crime against music.
You Shook Me All Night Long - Celine Dion and Anastasia ruining the ACDC classic
There have been some awful cover for charity but for a good cause.
Everybody hurts by REM was destroyed but at least it was for a good reason (Haiti disaster fund)
yummy,
the guns and roses and Nirvana songs arent better than the original though!
To make You Feel My Love...Bob Dylan...
Covered by various Artists..
Best covers in my opinon..
Garth Brooks and Adele..
I never got Dylans whiny voice anyway:mrgreen:
nice I hink they did a better version of sympathy for the devill but killed knocking on heaven door.
Johnny cash did a great version of owen personal jesus as well american 4 was a great cd.
All along the watchtower by Bob Dylan but the definitive version is Jimi Hendrix and for me always will be.
Knockin on heavens Door Eric Clapton brilliant but Gunsnroses version also brilliant. First time I kissed MrsM it was playingso it holds a certain precious memory for me.
Guns and roses version of live and let die was 100% better than the original by paul mc cartney and wings.
You cant beat axel and that trouser snake..yummy
prodigy remix of ghost town by the specials
aslan used 2 do a good live version of make me smile by cockney rebel donno if they ever recorded it tho
I love Celine Dion`s version of i drove all night, cant think who done it first but Celine has such a powerful voice the song suits her down to the ground.
:giggle:I think the originals are best like Kellogs corn flakes ..
I didnt Long :haha::haha::haha:
 And 57 year old cornflakes dont taste that good either
Yeah i would say they would be a bit soft by now lol
I have to say that for the main the originals are the best but there are some wonderful covers, mainly of mr chainsaw himnselfs songs as mentioned earlier. Edie Bricelle's version of "A Hard Rain's gonna Fall" is one such version. Was on the soundtrack to Born on the forurth of July.... Also that Today FM album that mr Pet Sounds brings out is brill where they have bands play cover versions just for the radio has thrown up some gems.
I have a passion for Irish ballads and can not stand covers of the originals. Leave The Wolfe Tone songs alone lol
I am the original and the best. Mind you I am unique and no comparisons can be made.
A one and only if you will.
Oh and Mrs M wishes me to add "Thank feck for that"
See I told you she loves me!!!!!
I'm Every Woman by Chaka Khan later covered by Whitney Houston, who really didn't stand a chance with this song given the superb originality of Chaka..
