I was also jealous of a girl who wore calipers, because she was able to get free shoes:-o:-o
Your story struck a chord with me addie. I was pathologically shy with girls. It took me to my very late teens before I could even have a normal conversation with a girl. Pure hell.
Looking back I also know I stuttered. Parents would complain about it. I think I dealt with it by taking a breath while assembling the sentence and then going for it. To this day I can pause before speaking.
No-one would know this, although some friends in my early 20's did point out my characteristic pause...
