I was driving a Combine in the middle of the biggest field in east Anglia(was working on a big estate in Suffolk), I stopped the machine and just sat there for about five minutes trying to gather the facts by flicking around the radio stations. was back at the house at Dinner time watching the images on the news and the continuous rolling script at the bottom of the screen relaying the grim details, thats when the real gravity of the situation hit me.
I'll remember the day for as long as I live.
I was at home with my kids in the sittingroom when my mum phoned me to put on the tv,I was in total shock an was glued to the tv for the rest of the week.
i was on my way back to work after lunch when my dad had the radio on in the car like dora it was joe i remember it like yesterday, course at that time they tought it was a small plane at first hit tower 1 but the worlds worst nightmare came true when tower 2 was hit and the subsequent collapse. i think for alot of that day i was watching the tv news in the pub next to where i worked it was absolutly shocking to watch. and may we never forget all those who lost there lives that day from i think 85 different countries including an irish women who was on the plane that hit tower 1 and may we also never forget the hero passengers on board flight 93 who struggled with the terrorists to bring the plane down in pennsillvania and save alot more lives on the ground.
r.i.p. all the victims of 9/11/2001
I was at work and my Team Leader was online on the news channel and he called us all over quietly because he wasn't sure if it was some prank being unveiled. We all checked with various other official sources and as the afternoon wore on - several folks were left to go home early - because they had family over there who were involved.
Sad thing is - as a direct result of that event - our office was expanded from 400 staff to more than a 1,000 over the subsequent year, because the USA placed such strict new rules on who would be allowed to fly there that are still in place today.
:Pprobaly going to open a can of worms here i was in the tv lounge at work saw the whole thing on telly ,and thought what a tragic loss of life ,but finally america gets pay back for all its dirty dealings throughout the world ,and before anyone jumps down my throat i lost two cousins in the towers but i lay the blame for their death firmly at america,s door ,for arming and funding the saudis who carried out the attacks
I was at home heavily pregnant with only days to go, I just switched the tv and couldn't believe what I was watching..... I too seen the second plane hit the tower live!
To this day it is a date I have never forgotten
It looks like everyone remembers what she or he was doing this day...
I was at work, putting together a paper to print for next morning, when guy from graphics called on us to come and see telly first I thought it's some new movie. It took me till second plane hit the tower to realise what it is and then I got scared...place I'm from is like Ireland. Mountains, sheep, shepards well that's how it was untill my place became great tourist atraction. Before that plenty people left for America. No home without relatives in States. Hell broke loose. Next 72 hours spent in newsroom calling people, friends ... Trying to find out if there are people I know amongst missing. Storys, very personal and pain, lots of it...
:upset:i was on a bus coming home from a appointment wit my son wen the bus driver said over intercom a plane had hit the tower then my dad rang to tell me as i have a brother over ther i got home put on telly to see the live pictures wen the 2nd plane hit i cudnt believ wat i was seeing n remeber filling up n sat watching and waiting 4 news stil remeber it as if it was yesterday:upset::upset:
i was on a job in ranelagh,,when jo came over the airwaves,,and it sounded serious,,so i went into pub next to job,,with about 5 people in bar watching some horse racing,,i asked bar man to turn on sky news,,i was nearly lynched,by 5 auld codgers ffs,,but he flicked it on and the mood changed from typical pub banter to stoney silence..rang several friends,,who i knew had family state side to tell them..
one of them kinda days for a generation.....
I was on Dawson Street in Dublin at lunch, saw people standing around a stock brokers window sky news was on, it was horrific. At the time I was working on a new systems implementation and had been dealing with people that worked in the Twin Towers! It was a sad,sad day thousands of innocent lives lost and thousands still affected by it too this day. The reasoning behind that day can never be justified.
Happylouth. .
I can remember it like it was yesterday ,the sun was shining and I had just finished work and turned the radio on in the car when the dj annouced the twin towers had been hit by the first plane and he wasn't sure if it was a prank. I was home and in front of the tv to see the second plane hit the gives me chills now even thinking about it. I hope I never have to see a tradegy of this scale ever again in my lifetime.
