STI's: watching only

As much as we love swinging we were thinking only recently how lucky we are not to have contracted an STI. From chatting to a doctor friend they were saying the cases of STIs in Ireland are going though the roof. This leaves us with a dilemma: how to have fun and not put ourselves at risk. This is not possible!! Herpes, HPV (warts etc) are transmitted via skin to skin and a condom does NOTHING to prevent this. People say they are careful who they swing with but there is NO way of telling who has such infections. These things stay for life and we just don't think the risk is worth it ;( In recent times we are soft swap only so HIV/HEP is not as a big a concern for us as the more easily transmitted. Is there any couples who have gone down the road of watching only. We are considering this: meet with couples to watch only, or maybe look at using dental dams etc. I just couples (us included) would rather not think/talk about this as it spoils the fun, but it only takes one encounter and its with you for life.
Youve just scared the $hite outta me, but in saying that, maybe its a good thing. As a community based primarily on sexual activity with multiple partners, knowledge like that posted above by cpeire can only make us more aware of the dangers. I cannot advise anyone myself about how to avoid such STI's, apart from what each of us already know ourselves, which is to be as safe as we possibly can. Great post cpeire
Very good post...Am a bit bemused by the lack of replies tho...Ir doesnt matter how careful u are...But maybe its something ppl dont want to think about...Call it a lifestyle...we now cos of technology we can do it online...and cos we think we know them we are safe...ya ok lol...... we
Thinking / talking about it is a passion killer. It spoils the fun. I know we had the attitude if we don't think about it it will never happen. Everything (good) in life involves some degree of risk. We've had great times swinging and would love more but wondering if its worth it in light of potentially permanent consequences.
folks there are many things you can do to help prevent all this and taking the right steps is always the way forward and as well as that get a regular check up from the clinics that are there to help they dont ask questions that you dont want to answer the one thing the hse have got right i regularly go for check ups and not ashamed to say i do i rather be carefull then find out i got a nasty s.t.i from someone, we are all responceble for our own health , so caution is the better part for everyone to do there bit, Tatts

Tatts, I totally agree with your point. Life in itself is full of risks. I too get checked and all any of us can do is be as carefull as we can be, get checked regularily and if a problem arises deal with it like a responsible adult.
Have fun people!
