Not been political in the least but just a simple post to remember those lost in the great wars around the world from all countries.
50,000 Irish alone "Sons of Ulster" and "Brothers in Arms from the South" ... I visited a WW1 & WW2 graveyard once .... the song about young Willie Mac Bride, says it all & seeing all the white headstones really makes you think how lucky we are.
raven its good to take a minute an realise how lucky we all are .
Yes it is Playfull, so many young lives wasted and still the world is no closer to peace.
As I'm sure many of you know, the phrase "at the 11th hour" comes from the fact that the Armistice Treaty that ended WW1 came into effect at 11 o'clock. While many more people died during WW2 I personally find the tragic and pointless sacrifices made at places like Ypres far more poignant than than those during WW2. We travelled down through that area a few years ago on our way to Spain and had the chance to look across the battlefields themselves......as you would expect there is no sign of what happened there almost a hundred years ago, but I got a real sense of the futility of it looking across the landscape.
well said n good topic xxxxxxxx
we might also remember those that are Missing ... but never forgotten by their friends or family and remember the Homeless ... a euro is not much but it means alot to those sleeping rough
Remembrance,
To me means remembering your best mate, that died at 13 years of age.
Remembering meeting your Dad for the first time in your 20's ( my parents divorced when I was six months old)
Remembering, the struggle your Mother had, to raise not only you but the rest of her Children on her own.
Remembering the good tales of Cork Street in Dublin and of Greek Street, that my Grandmother told. The Guinness boats travelling down the Liffey, Moore Street, Frawleys on Thomas Street.
Most importantly, remembering friends and looking forward to making more on here!
Padd's
You hit the nail on the head Padds, rememberance really is about what is important to each of us.
