they were pics belonging to another user on the site. As soon as they were caugth they swiftly removed the pics and claimed they hadn't put any up.

Thanks for the reply ,Did you inform admin at the time ? I wander have admin even botherd to look into this as it would be breaking the site rules i belive.

Yeah admin have been informed and as far as i know the user has been banned permanently.

As things stand, if we simply remove the account, they could just come back with the same username or another, but we would have no record of their previous details, email, IP Address etc So we make sure that the account can't be accessed by them, whilst the site is being rebuilt, after the relaunch there will be a notice on banned accounts saying that they are banned, if we can we will roll in those previously banned as well.
