I was asked this question the other day, "did I think moderators should mingle at a "Meet & Greet"? ... I ocassionally attend such events and as a non-mod in the early part of the evening I like to mingle with those present before spending time with friends. The mods are not the hosts & yet there may be a perceived onous on them to be the "front of house" for the site, but they are there in a private capacity also. So should they mingle?
I think this is a silly question. Of course they should, otherwise what's the point in them being there? Whilst i don't agree with some rules enforced on here, it's their job here to enforce them. Just because their moderators, doesn't mean their not entitled to have fun like the rest of us. I've met quite a few of them and they were all lovely genuine people, so yes, of course they should mingle.
MrH.
Fact is, we moderators are here for the same as everyone and our moderator status begins and ends with the swing4ireland web site. Outside of here we are just people who want to enjoy ourselves as well.

Oh my God ...
With all due respect, I have to agree with a poster above. This is a silly question.
OF COURSE they should mingle!! Moderators are users of the forum and they are in complete freedom to attend to M&Gs and chat to other people ... why shouldn't they?
I am fortunate to know some of the mods on here *wink wink* and I wouldn't imagine them not being able to talk to other users...
** Having re read the thread My apologies AB on the former comments**
I would hate to think there is any onus on mods to mingle at a meet and greet, we arent there to represent the site, we attend in our own time and for our own reasons, not to say that I don't mingle, but I do so for my own reason's and not in a s4i PR capacity.
Eh??? No where did he suggest that mods were not welcome at a meet and greet Titan, what the op was aking imo was it fair that moderators should be perceived as front of house people, as in they should HAVE to mingle simply because they are mods on site, and others expect this of them..
Perhaps a case of going back and reading exactly what was written is in order.
For my part, I don't think any mod from site should feel they have to spend their time omgling, simply becuuse of their status on site, when you log off then you are entitled to walk away form moderating.
Forgive me for sounding stupid here, but the last time I checked the term "Mingling" in the dictionery, it meant to move around!! Now isn't that why we go to Meet and Greets...to move around and meet and chat with people.
Just because someone is a Moderator on Site, at a meet and great we are all equals, and I will go further, even on Site, we are all equals. No member is more important than anyother member and Moderators exist to just watch over what goes on in an unbiased fashion. After that, there is no difference whatsoever.
So in response to Alan's Posting, when we all go to a meet and great, there is NO them and us, it is all about we members of s4i having a good time.
I have to agree with eponymous on this one, at a meet and greet mods are just the same as the rest of the attendes ! That is unless they have organised the meet and out of courtesy they greet the those attending.
as a mod on a diff site and organiser of small public meets i always meet everyone as they arrive... but if i didnt organise it i wouldnt do it as officially.. but as the type of person i am id make sure i spoke to each and every person who comes eitherway ..im not representing any site, off site.
i dont think there be anyone who expects mods to be front of house at a social gathering.
Jeez, turn your head for a minute and posts disappear!
perhaps the questioner really meant "should mods introduce themselves as site moderators if they are at a "meet & greet" even though they may be there in a private capacity .
In much the same way as a policeman can never really be off duty can a mod be off duty when at a site related event, obviously private parties are different as the attendees would tend to know one another.
sure minute u tell someone ur username.. they know u are one...theres no way to avoid it..
sometimes its a pain in the ass..they have preconceptions of u before u even open ur gob...even if they spoke to u before online or not.

I will probably be hung for this or banned lol Mods are not Gods, either on site or off site. They are not paid to Moderate, it is something they choose to do, and whether they are on site or off they should be treated no differently to any other member. It is a personal choice for anyone who goes to a meet and greet who they talk to, and as i said before they make a choice to be a mod, and have the choice to mingle or not mingle.
Dar said we are all equal here, which we should be, so what is the point to this thread? It is already raising peoples emotions, Mods are just members like everyone else on this site. I just wish people would stop making such a big deal of it. Can we not all just get along lol
oh well, wont be long before this is locked then...:welcome:
I'm too tired to read all the comments but yous all all intelligent people so i'm sure its all good. I will say this though, without Mods we haven't got a site, they are the thin blue line that separates fun from anarchy.
Sungoddess, I can't post for any other of the mods, but when I log off, I log off, I party and have fun time permitting, and not once does my mod role on site ever come into play off site.
I thought I was asking a simple question, it was never intended as a reflection on Mods or the work they do. I think my record shows that I hold Mods in high regard.
I honestly expected a simple yes or no answer. Possibly a comment along the lines of " its nice 2 meet the Mods outside chat" or " as a Mod I like to welcome the new members & let them know we are there to help".
Instead the replies are somewhere between Mod bashing & support your local mod.
Before it disintegrates into a them & us debate I would repuest that the thread be locked , possibly removed or both.
