Just curious as to what the outcome will be, and I've always wanted to add a poll to the forums, I also reckon this poll would be as accurate as anybody else's....I voted no last time, but have been thinking of voting yes this time, there's a lot of scaremongering from either side, I'd rather vote to see things change than leave things as they are at this stage....has anybody got any good reasons to support one side or the other.
Would be interested to know what changed your mind from a no, to a considering yes vote?!?
I voted yes last time & will do so this time, not because I necessarity agree with all the Lisbon proposals ... but it is a move in the right direction to get the monolithic bureaucracy that is the EU, changed for good to deal with a modern Europe and the 21st century society. I have also I believe voted for my childrens future as I do believe you have to be within the corridors of power to have any real influence. Over the years Ireland has done well out of Europe and even our now lost Celtic Tiger owes its birth to the Eu & our membership
:Pvoted no last time voting no again , nothing has changed , read up on it ,small farmers will be all gone within 5 yrs ,young irishmen will be sent to fight english and american wars ,and working class people will be a hell of a lot worse off , every country that was polled , said they would vote no if they had a vote ,the eu is a richmans club ,do you trust the scum in the dail ???? i certaintly dont :sticky: ps just in case anyone thinks wrong thing , we are not republicians or nationalists
I'm with Tussey on this one, am voting no as I did before :color:
I back AmberX and Tussey here! I voted NO the last time and will do so again! The words "Rail roading" spring to mind, we as a nation have voted in the past, follow the rest, without knowing the true facts! Most voters think, If I/we vote yes then the recession will be over! Lisbon, in my eyes is a threat from Europe, say YES or..... that or being? In the 80's under the old Common Market, Ireland gained alot, under EU in the late 90's and early 2000's Ireland's presence in Europe changed from that of beneficiary to that of provider, the Celtic Tiger ploughed huge amounts of funds back. In my eyes, Lisbon states one thing... to make EUROPE a Continent! a global ARMY and a dictatorship! Yes we hear all the Political Parties stating " We have to vote YES! so as not to be excluded from further funding!" but why do we have as too? as it stands, as EUROPEANS we have the same rights as fellow members and will continue to do so. Nobody likes bullying, infact in normal day to day life, it is frowned upon! Question: Are we being bullied? Answer: Yes! That's my thoughts! I could harp on about Milk/Fish qouta's and the rest, but I wont. Ireland (without it's own internal problems) is a Neutral Country and in my Eyes should remain so! LETS STAND UP AND BE COUNTED ! Padds
My Recommendation is vote "NO" we will not loose out, if that where the case and the European Parliament used Ireland as an example, then that in itself would prove a point! VICTIMISATION! A NO vote is not a WRONG VOTE! Padds
The thing about Lisbon that worries me is that if it's voted in then it can be amended without any further referendms ??this to me puts way to much power into the hands of unelected beurcrats, I voted no the last time, I will vote no this time too biggrin swingers for a no vote :lol2:as allways sorry for the bad spelling:-o
We voted No,,and it's NO again this time. It's sickening that We have to vote Again, after already voting NO. Would Not happen in any other Country.. Us Irish are the laughing stock of the world. A country run by feckin muppets,Yet,We just sit back, and take it up the backside!
I will be voteing no, personal reasons. What i cant understand is so many voted no last time and our elected goverment who doesnt seem to think we the people have the right to choose so have brought in a second vote to get what they want. The last time there was very little publicity about it and what there was you would need to be fluent in bs to know what it all meant and now we are hearing all the benifits of it, it reeks of crap to me and i for one will not have any flashy campaings change my veiw, lisbon will not make our country better and at the end of the day the church will still rule this country, case in point abortation will still not be allowed....is that the goverment or the men in dresses dictating how we live? When are the gobshites in the dail going to listen to what the people in this country want?
All I can say now is I truly hope rhino's litle pole here, is an indication of the general population of voters, and that the "no I wont" vote and the "I dont know" vote swing to the NO vote, and show this government for the last time the ppl in this country mean NO is NO. That treaty will not change our economy, its our own government that has put us in this situation, global economics aside, bad management, corruption, greed, and squandered millions have us where we are today. We are reeling far more as a nation compared to any other EU contry. The Lisbon treaty WILL NOT GET US OUT OF THIS SITUATION, NOR WILL THIS GOVERNMENT, till we stand up and say NO TO LISBON AND NO TO THIS GOVERNMENT!!!
Can we have a 'Piss off my vote is confidential yee nosey hoors' Option on the poll?:smoke:
Will this be the new standard pole to take over from the redsea pole that is used by all the right wing/ centralist papers and national broadcasters?
Yeah Titan, I should have put that option in, and yes excess this poll will be the most accurate one I'm sure....Not sure what made me change my mind Sherri, I knew voting No last time would mean they'd be asking us again, I guess I just feel were either part of Europe or were not, voting No is a bit like saying I'm with ye, but not fully....I know things aren't going to get better as soon as we vote yes if we do, but it could be good for us in the long run....I generally listen to the people who are asking us to vote no but I'm still leaning to a yes vote....going by our poll it's looking like No...but although we have a good selection of people here, age, background, class, area etc, we still have a selection of the same kind of people.....It will be interesting to see how it goes on the day.
Very good poll Rhino, interesting to see the trend in here alone Padds
This is kind of s strange situation for us to be in. We have made Ireland our home and are on the register of voters - while we can vote Biffo out of the Dail we can't vote in a referendum. Don't really understand the reasoning behind it (if there is any), just have to live with it. I think that this time there has been a greater attempt to explain the possible consequences of the vote, but I doubt that the majority of people still have a proper grasp on the ins and outs - it's a long, boring and kind of confusing document, and I can understand why most people wouldn't want to plough their way through it, but as a result most of you (and by that I mean the Irish people in general, not necessarily the posters here) aren't seeing the whole picture, just the individual points being raised by each side. As I said at the start, we aren't allowed to vote, and as a consequence I haven't really looked into it that much, so I can't say whether I would vote yes or no, but I will say this......you all need to look beyond the party politics that seem to have dominated this and look at how a yes or no vote will affect you personally and as a country, both in the short term and the long.
think the 5 yr rule operates t-bags..i know it has for non nationals (hate that term but it fits in definition) close to me. As ur child will grow up here..and the rest of ur family if they chooses to stay, be right if u had a vote eventually on the constitution, on the land and its rules to which ur future generations will flourish.
As a few people on here know, I am a United States national, Therefore I won't be permitted to vote on this referendum. That said, I thought I would offer an outsider's perspective on the whole thing. Firstly, the EU is set up in a way that will eventually fail. It is inherently unfair and dictatorial in nature. Secondly, there is a glaring lack of transparency in regard to the treaty and what it actually means to Ireland and to Europe. There has been a good bit of scaremongering from both sides. My philosophy is ...when in doubt....don't. My hope is the good people of Ireland don't fall for this scaremongering...It's how George Bush got elected ffs. Need I say more? So I would say, if I were to vote, it would be a resounding NO. My message to the EU would be come back to us when you are ready to be fair and transparent. These are people lives you are affecting. Same goes for the Dail. Stop treating the voters like children. This is the stuff revolts and revolutions are made of.
BTW... the gov't of Ireland may not let me vote, but by gawds I voted no on the s4I poll. :violin:.."it's been a privilege playing with you..."
LOL LOL Padds u sure now!! hehehe..
I was accosted this evening in the chat rooms, for commenting on Lisbon! commenting on, I might add on a fellow users post in the main chat! You all know what I feel about Lisbon! but just because that fellow users/users disagreed, doe's that warrant me being called a muppet or a sad bastard? I think not! We are all entitled to express our opinions! I for one will always be both vocal and upfront. If that same couple that so rudely attacked me in the chatroom have have a problem with my post, then I suggest you contact a MOD or ADMIN. But guess your, the MUPPETS, for not being here, reading the threads and respecting fellow Users! Padd's
5 Key reasons to Vote No to the Lisbon Treaty 1. It is a bad deal for Ireland and has already been rejected by the Irish people. 2. It reduces Ireland’s power in the EU – we will lose our permanent commissioner and our voting strength on the Council will be cut by half while the bigger states double their strength. 3. It will make the economic crisis even worse by forcing through policies that caused the recession, reducing the Irish government’s ability to take essential decisions, driving down pay and conditions and further undermining our public services. 4. It erodes neutrality by drawing us into a common defence and obliging us to increase military spending. 5. It removes our automatic right to a referendum on future changes to existing treaties. I rest my case! Padd's
Sorry to here you encountered idiots in the chat room Padds, you know yourself you have a greater chance of running into some tosser here that anywhere else on the net. So today's the day, will the actual results be similar to the ones in our poll....possibly.....most people I know are voting No, but I think I'm still voting yes. You may not get a third chance.....vote wisely.
The waiting begins, I have a feeling the "YES" voters cam out in abundance, if that is the case, so be it!! Padd's
Yep..it seems to be looking that way...its a sad day where the people of this country voted to have their voices not be heard, in affect no more referendums for the people on change, as it will just be rubber stamped if the yes vote succeed...this is the first step in the EU becomming one nation....the assimilation process has begun...
Alas, but we live in a country where the politicians have rerun yet another referendum so they can have a scapegoat for their greed and sheer ineptitude in managing a country's resources. Yes we are irish, but unfortunately we have been treated like good old thick micks by yet more political idiots (rem maastricht?, vote yes or we'll just rerun until you eventually vote the way we want you to). the people who 'dictate' (a word very adept for any government we have running this shambles) what is 'good' for us, have now in place another scapegoat when things start to go downhill again, it will no longer be the politicians fault, from now on its all down to the way the 'european parliament' does things. Bertie done his thing, he created the celtic tiger, he sold off all the government assets and made a nice litter earner out of it, created jobs for the 'boys' and they are all very happy with their offshore bank accounts, foreign homes, etc. Its just a shame they had to wait until the current trend kicked in, but you have to admit good old Biffo's advisers must have been licking their lips when the opportunity for a scapegoat arose when the recession kicked in. On a final note, may as well get used to an increase in taxes and as for Biffo and his gang, what they can't introduce as a tax, they will implement as a levy sad. A Yes to Lisbon will be the last time Democracy has a say in the way things are done. The Times They Are A Changing........... (Bob Dylan)
Well said,Baileys..... When this country now, falls deeper into the mire,,We can gladly sit back and think,,,"It wasn't Us,,We voted NO" Enough said!!
