The main reason the cost of school buses is what it is now, most likely is due to the fact that the company's have higher rates of insurance, fuel costs, up keep of buses, wages to pay to drivers, D.O.E, tax for a large number of buses, repairs to interiors of buses, the list goes on and on,in an industry that is badly affected by the recession and due to the level of tourist dropping, they have to ensure they meet the costs of all of the above and can not do that if they charge prices from two years ago never mind ten. A lot of very good coach and bus company's have had to sell up due to lack of work, making a lot of good drivers unemployed.
Like every business they have to be able to keep running if possible and if it means a price hike within reason they have to do it.
And personally if i knew my child was getting to school safely in a well maintained bus driven by a professional with proper insurance i would beg borrow or steal the money to pay for it.

Buses and safety ?????!!!
rotflmao :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
Bus-drivers are leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeethal as far as I'm concerned. :undecided::O:uhoh:
They consistently tail-gate, they constantly rant and rave and scream and shout and swear at the vehicle in front trying to find fault with the driver in front, and so they're not looking where they are going, and as a result end up on kerb-side corners a bit too excessively! They always "have to be some-where else," so you're rarely if ever gonna get a Bus-driver that isn't gonna be driving at speed too fast too soon. Bus-drivers rarely wait for Passengers to complete boarding or alighting or sitting down on a bus, so they set-down or depart buses under very dangerous circumtances; - people could get caught in the Bus doors, or fall in the aisle and get injured before reaching a seat, etc. etc. the list goes on. I feel Bus-drivers are much more pointedly care-less in their ways than car-drivers.
Safety is paramount most definitely and I was merely indicating the cost. I wasn't looking at the safety side of things as from one perspective that I know of, - they don't have the choice as they have to work else-where etc. but if they could, they most definitely would personally deliver their child to school themselves, but the only option they have is to put the 13-18 y.o. kids' lives who are just starting out in life in the hands of an un-safe Bus-driver!
So yeah safety is of course very important, it's vital. But while parents may be working etc. they still are trying to do their very best by and for the child.
Oh and as changing times and Business has been mentionned, the value and meaning of money should also get a mention lol! So alas I still feel school-bus Tickets are too high in price for what they are - to get a child to school, and also too high in price considering the possibility of the un-safety of Bus-drivers.
Zaza, may i offer an opinion as a parent myself.... I think parents...all parents should get more involved in all aspects of the education system. Band together proactively. Perhaps organize some volunteer "bus parents" to go along with pick ups and deliveries of the students. Even have a clipboard of sorts with a rating system and notes. Ask to see all licenses and other vetting documents. Insist upon it. These are our kids ffs. And don't take no for an answer from the bus companies.
Jeez Zaza, take a seat hun, breathe deeply and think happy thoughts!! You'll give yourself a heart attack at this rate!!!
Zaza, Teddy here, As a private coach driver may i say that the standard of bus drivers in this country was never the best and has gone down in recent years. Saying that, the standard of coach drivers has also dropped to my dismay, as i have seen children as young as seven without seat-belts and also without adult supervision, as it is no longer the drivers responsibility, it should be the school and bus company's responsibility to provide adequate supervision, company's i have worked for in Dublin have had this in place and also check lists of children to travel,so no one would be left behind. If you are having problems with a particular company, i suggest you talk to other parents and then approach the company to put such measures in place, if they refuse i suggest you approach another company as in this economic climate there are plenty to choose from. Just to add my point i think you are judging all drivers on the likes of cie drivers, some drivers care more about their jobs and their safety and take measures to ensure they do a damn good job. Firstly in response to Shaven it's a piece of writing! Would rather write than what ..... do nothing etc.??!!?? But admittedly it's easier when writing to gather your thoughts together, that's all. :small-print: good lord now all I wanna do is giv yez a big hugggggg :therethere:kiss:therethere: I'm sorryyyyyy xxx I'm just writing as I see it without meaning to be unfair, but it comes out all wrong and sounds personal when I don't intend it to be in any way personal whatsoever. I'm not goin' writing in the Forums again after this! :upset::upset: (except for the gaming ones! In fact I may not even look at any of the other Threads again sad:undecided: ) One last steam post is annoyance at the Union Strike tomorrow - with worry that unemployment pay is gonna be stalled / postponed / delayed or whatever, plus tha liklihood of the cut in the Budget .... But those with families and mortgages are alas in a much worse off position .... :rose::uhoh:

I understand that there is a thread already here regarding whispers....but i dont want to post there.....because i am here to let off steam! I read Sherris post in the whispers thread and I agree with the whole concept of ignoring whispers and letting them past over you. I do that...always have....and always will...unless they are crude or persistant. Howver.....this evening i was getting so many whispers that I was missing the private converstion I was having with someone.....yes i was whispering.....so yes i chose to have my whispers enabled. But I didnt NOT choose to have so many whisperers. I ignored for a long time these persistant whisperers....but when i asked.....in main chat for them to stop....i was told to ignore them! Ok.....normally.......this is what i do do.......but when i explained that i was trying to ignore them...and that i only reuquested politely.....for them to stop.....I was told to be an adult!!!!!!! I wasnt rude....nor pissed off by my whispers....I just wanted to be able to carry on my conversation without having to find my friends posts. Hence why i asked please could people stop whispering me...I also asked that if they wanted to....to ask me in main chat and to get a reply of a yes from me in mian chat. I for one have always stood up for the mods and their roles. Its a tough job.......but to tell someone to be an adult, when I was trying to handle things in a polite and adult like manner......well....honestly.........i am hurt.

what i actually said ...was this ......eponymous: well, we are all adults here , just ignore them .

Epony...understood.....but can you not accept that i politely asked people to stop whispering......I didnt post any of them as i think thats a foolish thing to post people who just say hi, then get kicked for it.....but....by telling me to ignore all the whispers.....that was putting the responsibilty on my shouders regarding the uninvited whispers issue here. There i felt was no responsibilty put upon those doing the whispering to stop. Just me to ignore them.
I feel as a regular user and enjoyer of the chat rooms, that a kindly reminder to people not to whisper was needed also.
Might I also add that some of these whisperers although being ignored where sending repeatedly more whispers, unpeturbed by my ignoring them. I am not talking about one or two hellos and then...hows you this evening. I am talking about constant whispering and question asking. Ask anyone who knows me well at this stage and they will tell you that i ask politely in the main chat for people to stop and request they ask first. I dont belittle them. I like to think i give respect and wish some in return.
Miss, I agree with you. You are always respectful in chat and once you asked folks to stop whipsering - THEY are the ones who should have been 'adult' enough to shut the fcuk up! When they didn't desist - THEY should have been reminded of the site rules.
This issue will continue to raise it's head until the system is changed.
