Top Ten Reasons to Make Gay Marriage Illegal
01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all like many of the principles on which this great country was founded; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of marriages like Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.
07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.
09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans. .

I am not sure what yer going for with this post, is it a thing your finding it funny, or your objecting to the hypocrasy of the article?
Personally I think that Gay Marraige is a right that gay people should have but its one that may be fraught with numerous problem.
Titan me old sherbert...what makes u think that "normal" marriages don't have exactly the same sort of problems? I can think of a few ways that a gay marriage could work much better - no need for 3 wardrobes for her shoes, no need for 2 bathrooms coz ye can't get neat the sink for tissues and makeup (well, there might be tissues alright lol), no worries about the toilet seat....the list goes on, but ye get the idealol.
Seriously tho, while yer man there was havin a laff (I hope) it is a damn good analysis of the "moral majority" and christian right wing attitudes, not just in the good old US of A, but all over the world. Look no further than your own good country and you will find a fair few examples of exactly this kind of thinking....get's a bit less funny then doesn't it?

For the last few days I've been having a ding-dong battle with an American fundie over this issue (in the comment thread on his blog). I took him to task over the fact that he felt he could use "secular reasoning" to argue against any change to the definition of marriage. My point was that the issue of gay marriage doesn't lend itself to secular reasoning, and he may as well just be honest and admit that when you peel away all the layers, his reasoning is based on religious (biblical) prejudice. Actually you can't go more than two layers deep without encountering a value judgement, for example: :taz: "if you allow a change in the definition of marriage it will lead to polygamy and other ills." So what's wrong with polygamy? Ummm.....well, it's just wrong....and so on. Or, allowing gay marriage will lead to...shock, horror,:laughabove: children actually seeing two people of the same sex getting married !! 
Needless to say, he didn't get it.

For years state and church have worked hand in hand to deny Gay women and men the basic human right to express their love and intimacy and finacial entitlements for each other in civil union.
If you break down the argumenst agianst , you are left with simple Homophobia, which according to the state is now against the law!!
Marrige is for procreation..
Does that cover the countless straight couples, who do not intend having children?..
Children will suffer, parental roles are not clearly defined within a gay marrige...
Children flourish in homes, full of love, understanding, mental and physical stimulation, regardless of who raises them.
Church teaching on Homosexuality , should never influence a State on any decision to provide basic human rights for all of its' citizens..

Hah, no, fortunately he's not quite as bad as the cryptkeeper. :devil: On the wackaloon scale if Fred Phelps is 10, this fellow's a 7 or 8. :fuckinghell: Sadly his views are fairly typical of many folks, they have this knee-jerk reaction to homosexuality. It's gonna take time to undo thousands of years of prejudice, but I live in hope........
