Am I the only one who's driven crazy by profiles that say things like:
"Guy 4 fun wit ladies"
Not that wanting fun is offensive at all, we all like fun but when writing your profile is it so hard to write full words? All the letters are there on the keyboard and it's not like you're against the clock. In my opinion (and I'm likely to get some stick for this and I'm sorry if I offend) it makes the person who composed the profile seem less than intelligent.
It's not so bad in chat, where you might actually be in a hurry if the room's busy, but its such a lazy way to write a profile.
Maybe I'm a snob, but it really bugs me.
Can not abide text speak, either in profiles, mails or texting, and rarely in chat.
It drives me bloody nuts!!!!!!! Having to spend time deciphering mails written in text speak, and when someone says k for okay grrrrrrrrr...how many adults actualy go around saying k? it is just as easy to write correctly, and in all honesty I ignore most mail written in text.
Oh I wouldnt be a fan of it either, To think all them years of gruelling education (4th class..... ) are going down the drain is a crime in itself.
i absolutely abhor text speak ...i get mails that my 4 year old would compose better , and i think if a person cant be arsed to even fill out their profile ...well, they dont deserve to be taken very seriously....having said that..my own profile has feck all on it , but thats because i change my username often .
I'd never shoot anyone down for using text speak in chat, though I sometimes battle to understand it. Shorthand such as ffs, brb etc. is sometimes vital when the chat room is busy.
In a private message I try to see whether this is just the way this person is used to communicating or whether it was just a lazy message.
On a profile it is a virtual guarantee that you and I are not going to get to know one another better.
Spelling and typos don't bother me in the least in personal communication, though I've been known to change tables at a cafe so I don't have to stare at a sign with a whole list of words where in every case the apostrophes were used incorrectly. And there's this one billboard near the train station in Dundalk... and in Newry, at the Buttercrane centre, there are these two banners... I fantasise about sneaking around in the dead of night with a ladder and two paint pots, one to blot out apostrophes that shouldn't be there, the other to add ones that should.
Um...
Maybe I should just shut up now.
Boo.
Boo, I'll grab the paint, what time shall we meet,
Text speak drives me crazy too, I don't even use it when I'm texting. The way I see it is that I spent long enough learning to spell I might as well use the bloody skill (1 of the few tht I have). The downside to not using it is that it takes ages to reply to anyone in the chat room & it can be hard to hold a conversation but I just can't bring myself to do it!!!
While I can understand people using it in chat rooms there can be no excuse for using it in profiles or e-mails.
i love it lol its so quick to send a text and say what u have to say .. my mum is even great at it lol
ah cvs and letters shud be full words and that but messaging sumone on here or texting is fine to use text speak
