***I know folk wanted less educational and more interesting Threads on here so apologies to those in advance! But coming up to Christmas, thinking of loved ones etc. I just thought of this. No dis-respect intended by this by the way in any form to those that unfortunately tragically lost their lives because of 9/11.***
After 9/11, one Company invited the remaining members of other Companies who had been decimated by the attack on the Twin Towers to share their available office space. Where "running late" seems to be the norm as you will see! (You'd be docked for every minute you're not there for sure in Ireland! :lol2: ) Some were lucky in that they were on Vacation etc. that particular day, or not rostered to be working at that particular point in time, others weren't so "lucky" in that, reasons they _were_ there at that time included; covering someone else's shift, went in to drop off Reports on their day off, and struggled into work despite being ill.
But at a morning Meeting, the Head of Security recounted stories of why these remaining people were alive..... and all these stories were Just LITTLE Things .................
Cantor Fitzgerald's C.E.O: Howard Lutnik was going to be late that day because his son started Kindergarten that morning, and he went with him on his first day. (-700 Personnel loss that day; 60% of the Company's entire Work-force.)
Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring doughnuts into the office that morning.
One woman was late because her alarm clock didn't go off in time. She had stayed up late the previous night to finish working on a Thesis study.
One was late because of being stuck on the New Jersey Turnpike because of an auto accident.
One of them missed his bus, the door closed in his face, it was just pulling off when he got to the station.
One had to take extra time to change their clothes as they had a case of mild food-poisoning and were sick.
One's car wouldn't start.
Four guys were late in because they had beers the previous night watching a Giant's game on Tv.
One went back to answer the telephone before leaving the house, he was heading for the 105th Floor.
One wasn't there because his Meeting had been postponed the previous night from that particular morning until the next week. (This guy as it happens, was just working there on a Summer Traineeship that was in its' last week.)
(Imagine all tha Meeting chop-change times ya do be cursin' in your Work-place! :lol2: )
One had a child that dawdled and didn't get ready as soon as he should have.
One couldn't get a taxi.
One man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means as usual to get to work, but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot, and he stopped at a Drugstore to buy a Band-Aid making him later than he normally would be.
Now when you are stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone, or next time your morning seems to be going wrong, the children are slow getting dressed, you can't seem to find the car keys, you hit every traffic light, don't get mad or frustrated; maybe this means this is the right place at the right time for you to be.
